Traits

Retractable Plant

Retractable Plant (Mutation)

Category: Plants

The Insectoplant is able to retract its plant into its body so that the plant is no longer visible. It may also make a plant inside the body come back out again.

Note:

When they have Retractable Plant, the Insectoplant must still have at least one listed plant trait, even if that plant is not visible in the reference image.

Alternate Types

Any Other Plant (AT) (Mutation)

Category: Plants
Species: Aratela

The Insectoplant has plants coming out of areas of the body not covered in silk. This trait encompasses all plant traits other than Silk Plant.

Note:

This trait only applies to Aratelas. For any other subspecies, the specific plant trait is used, such as Basic Plant, Flower Plant, etc.

Shaped Pupil / Iris

Shaped Pupil / Iris (Mutation)

Category: Head

The Insectoplant has pupils and/or irises that are an unnatural shape not shared with any real-world animals. This may be any shape.

Animated Eyes (Mutation)

Category: Head

The Insectoplant has eyes that can move in unnatural ways, having the appearance of being “animated,” such as through having swirling “hypnotic” eyes or pupils that can change shape.

Pupula Duplex

Pupula Duplex (Mutation)

Category: Head

The Insectoplant has two or more pupils in a single eye.

No Backpack

No Backpack (Mutation)

Category: Wings

The Insectoplant does not have a backpack on their back. They may still have wings coming directly out of their back.

Note:

This trait is only applies if the Insectoplant does not have No Wings or Non-Insectoid Wings but still has no backpack. If they have either of those traits, this trait is not necessary.

Alternate Types

Any Other Wings (AT) (Mutation)

Category: Wings
Species: Aratela

The Insectoplant has wings that do not match the description for any other Aratela wing trait. This trait encompasses all wing traits other than Web Wings, Cape Wings, Flap Wings, and Leg Wings. The silk pack sits between the wings.

Note:

This trait only applies to Aratelas. For any other subspecies, the specific wing trait is used, such as Beetle Wings, Dragonfly Wings, etc.

Hooves / Avian Feet (SC)

Hooves / Avian Feet (SC) (Mutation)

Category: Body
Parent Trait: Odd Limbs (Rare)
Species: Scoutopod

The Insectoplant has hooves resembling those of an ungulate and/or avian-like limbs. This may make it harder for the Insectoplant to swim effectively.

NOTE:

This trait only applies to Scoutopods. For any other subspecies, this falls under Odd Limbs.

Shaped Spiracles

Shaped Spiracles (Mutation)

Category: Body

The Insectoplant has spiracles that are a shape other than oval or circle. Not all of the spiracles must be the same shape.

Misplaced Body Parts

Misplaced Body Parts (Mutation)

Category: Body

The Insectoplant has one or more body parts found somewhere other than where they would normally be.

NOTE:

The Insectoplant does not need Misplaced Body Parts if they have Multiple Arms / Legs and/or Multiple Body Parts unless none of the respective body part are in the normal location.

Missing Body Parts

Missing Body Parts (Mutation)

Category: Body

The Insectoplant is missing one or more body parts for reasons unrelated to injury.

NOTE:

This trait can not be used to remove mandatory traits for any subspecies, such as by removing a Teabeetle’s nose horn or Brewmoth’s Wing Lashes. If spiracles are missing, Missing Spiracles is used instead. If a tail is missing, No Tail is used instead. If wings are missing, No Wings is used instead. If the backpack is missing, No Backpack is used instead.

Missing Spiracles

Missing Spiracles (Mutation)

Category: Body

The Insectoplant does not have spiracles going down the whole body (from the neck to the tip of the tail). The Insectoplant must still have at least three spiracles; spiracles can not be entirely removed.

No Tail (Mutation)

Category: Tails

The Insectoplant does not have any sort of tail.

Living Tail / Body

Living Tail / Body (Mutation)

Category: Magic

The Insectoplant has parts of their body that are alive separately from the main Insectoplant, such as by having a living tail, or has additional non-Insectoplant bodies.

Note:

If the Insectoplant has additional Insectoplant bodies, Multiple Bodies is used instead.
